The Cooperative Substrate Intelligence Advancement Project · A member-governed R&D track
"How does AI actually reason?"
The CSIA Project began with a simple question: How does AI actually reason?
The answer: it doesn't. Transformer-based models surf statistical homogeneity — predicting what tokens follow what tokens across billions of training co-occurrences. Not understanding. Surfing. Like a color preference test that "reads" your personality by banking on how statistically similar most people are.
CSIA replaces that with something grounded. Every transformer layer maps to an existing cooperative-substrate component.
88cbf6bd) got the right answer. A 70B-parameter raw-scale model (cb4ef450) got it wrong — twice. We made this cake. It is delicious. We are making the kitchen that made it as a product. Want to help?
Architecture
How the Caithedral™ Works
CAITHEDRAL
The Cooperative's substrate-native inference architecture. The caithedral-core npm package ships soccerball_emit/decode/lookup, speckle_nibble, eblit_emit, substrace_weave, quilt_compose, substrate_address primitives, and dag_soccerball_emit. The name signals cooperative-substrate-routed — not centralized — inference.
YOKE
The structured task dispatch unit bridging Bishop (strategist) to Knight (operator/builder). Every dispatch carries a BRIDLE preamble, canon carried verbatim, and task scope. Yoke-return is Knight's completion receipt — the Bishop–Knight interface: Bishop composes, Knight executes, Yoke carries the baton.
SOCCERI NODES
Content-addressed peers on the Frontier Mesh. SOCCERI address format: SHA-512 of peer payload bytes, lowercase hex-encoded. When a member installs MnemosyneC, their node becomes a Socceri. Addresses are embedded in Cue Deck Card invite payloads for substrate-layer network connection — not just referral attribution.
12-BLADE PLOW
The substrate epistemic engine. Runs MMLU-Pro-class questions through 12 sequential blades: domain_split → question_fanout → model_dispatch → quarantine_check (Andon-Cord) → adjudicate → eblet_mint → reputation_update → vault_write → cross_domain_link → Psionic → elimination_verify (Auditor) → dependency_propagate (Sentinel). Trial_01 result: 97.1% accuracy (68/70).
THE FRONTIER MESH
The cooperative's distributed substrate backbone. Every MnemosyneC installation is a Socceri node. Nodes replicate the IP Ledger via Merkle-diff handshakes — every entry eventually lives on a quorum of Frames across geographies. No single node is the source of truth. The mesh IS the source of truth. Each node is a Ring Bearer.
CSIA INFERENCE LAYER
Cooperative Substrate Inference Architecture. Replaces transformer layers with cooperative-substrate components: tokenization → Eblet vocab; embedding → Catacomb-grounded knowledge graph; attention → Pheromone routing (O(k) sparse, not O(n²) every-to-every); feed-forward → Cel-flashlight projection; calibration → Three Fates + Posse; honesty state → "I don't know yet" (ABSTAIN).

Governance
Two-Layer Review
Every member of the cooperative can review and vote on submitted CSIA proposals. This is a democratic, open review — not a committee. Any $5/yr member with an account can read the proposal summaries and cast a vote. Proposals that earn strong member support rise to the top of the queue.
From the top-voted proposals, a paid Curator Panel makes the final selection. Curators are appointed via bounty — one Curator Spot opens for every 10 CSIA reservations received. The panel reviews technical feasibility, cooperative alignment, and substrate integration quality. Their selection is final, binding, and recorded in the IP Ledger.
Both layers are necessary: the member vote prevents insider capture; the Curator Panel ensures technical quality. Neither layer alone is sufficient.
Bounty
Curator Spot Bounty
1 paid Curator Spot opens for every 10 CSIA reservations received. Curators are compensated from the submission pool and receive a permanent cooperative credit.
